Featured Presentation:

An introduction to spatial data in SQL Server

Shannon Shields, Lead Database Product Engineer Esri

SQL Server 2008 introduced two new data types; Geometry and Geography and marked SQL Server's foray into the world of geospatial data. This session will introduce you to these types and basic concepts necessary to working successfully with spatial data. We'll look at creating spatial data, managing it in your database, use spatial data in an analysis project, and visualize the results in a report.

About Shannon:
Originally a Canadian geographer, Shannon Shields made her way to Southern California in 1998 and has been helping people manage geospatial data in SQL Server ever since. She is the Lead Database Product Engineer at Esri and helps design software that interacts with spatial data stored on ten different dbms platforms. SQL Server remains her favorite. When she isn't busy raising spatial awareness she is a long-distance runner chasing after her two small children.

We are always looking for speakers to present at our monthly meetings.  We are sure you have done some really cool stuff in your role and would like to hear from friends in the trenches.  It's not hard and there are many of us happy to coach you.
